Cooking Under Quarentine

Join Chef Jonathan Hartig for a live cooking class to make the most out of your time at home. No need for takeout this week, because Jonathan is going to be teaching us a takeout FAKE-OUT - how to make spring rolls, dumplings, and fried rice from the comfort (and safety!) of your own home.

Ingredients Needed for “Takeout Fake-out”

  • Any kind of ground meat or tofu. Note - if you use tofu, try to use firm or extra firm tofu, or press it down for at least 5-10 min to extract water

  • Cabbage, shredded

  • Any kind of veggies that you prefer, chopped —some suggestions are mushrooms, shredded carrots, and onions, but you can use anything. Frozen veggies work great too!

  • Garlic

  • Ginger

  • Soy sauce

  • Sesame oil

  • Chili sauce — Jonathan likes Sambal which is a chili-garlic sauce from South East Asia, but you can also use Chinese chili oil, sriracha or even your favorite brand of hot sauce. Don’t use Tabasco because it is heavy on the vinegar!

  • 2-3 Eggs

  • Vegetable oil, or you can also use canola, grapeseed, etc. - any oil except for olive oil will do!

  • Egg roll wrappers and wonton wrappers — these are super easy to find in almost any grocery store now by the butter/vegan dairy section. The Nasoya brand is in Whole Foods, Fairway etc. and it is Kosher, parve, and vegan! — Still can’t find? Get some tortillas, and Jonathan will let you know how to hack it

  • Froze/canned peas and carrots

  • Your favorite stir-fry veggies or meats — grab whatever sounds good to you from your freezer or pantry. We’re going to transform these ingredients!

  • Rice -- any variety! Precooked/frozen /instant all work great
