Central Park Picnic & Build-Your-Own Snack Board
2-4 p.m. | August 31 | The Great Lawn in Central Park

Join the Grad Network for a relaxed Welcome Back Picnic in Central Park. Meet new people, catch up with friends, enjoy a Sunday in the park, and put together your own cheese and snack box! 

All food provided will be vegetarian and certified Kosher. Guests of Columbia & TC grad students are welcome to attend.

Knead for Learning: Challah Baking & Torah Learning
6-7:30 p.m. | September 4 | The Kraft Center 2nd Floor

We will bake challah that you can take home for your Shabbat table and  explore the week's Torah portion through engaging discussion! Everyone is welcome- no prior baking or learning experience needed! Pizza dinner will be served.

The first challah baking session will be 6 - 7:30 p.m. September 4 @ The Kraft Center.

Shabbat Unplug: Game Cafe
4-6 p.m. | September 5 | Hex & Co. West Side

You’ve completed the first week of classes! Celebrate by disconnecting from school and reconnecting with play, rest, and community. Game cafe will include board games, new (and returning) friends, and refreshments.

We'll gather between 4-6 p.m. September 5 at Hex & Co. West Side. Guests are welcome and advanced registration is required.


Ritual Lab: Make a Mezuzah
7-8:30 p.m. | September 10 | The Kraft Center

Create a one-of-a-kind mezuzah for your home! All attendees will create a personalized mezuzah case. No prior experience or knowledge is needed to participate! 

Space is limited. Register to reserve your materials.

We'll begin the workshops by examining texts connected to the ritual practice and then move into a guided art workshop. Dinner will be provided.


The Grad Network Shabbat Dinner
8 p.m. | September 12 | The Kraft Center

End the week with The Grad Network! Dinner will be served at the Kraft Center, located at 606 West 115th Street. Advanced registration is required to reserve your seat.

Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox services are available in the Kraft Center prior to dinner. More information about service times will be dinner registrants each Friday morning. If you have questions about service times, reach out to Melissa.


Erev Rosh Hashanah Dinner
8:30 p.m. | September 22 | The Kraft Center

Gather with the Columbia graduate student community 8:30 p.m. Monday, September 22 at the Kraft Center for a festive Rosh Hashanah meal. Guests of graduate students at Columbia & Teachers College are welcome. Advanced registration is required.

Rosh Hashanah Lunch & Tashlich

Join The Grad Network for Rosh Hashanah Lunch at the home of Rabbinic Intern Sarah Pincus. Lunch will be served 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 23.

Immediately following lunch, everyone is invited to participate in Tashlich (a ritual of symbolically casting away what we want to leave behind from last year) at Riverside Park immediately following lunch.

Tashlich Kayking
4:45 p.m. | September 26 | Pier 84 Boat House

Don't miss The Grad Network’s special high holiday tradition: Tashlich Kayaking! Tashlich is a custom of symbolically getting rid of our bad habit and mistakes from the past year by tossing small pieces of bread into moving waters. Participate in the custom while kayaking in the Hudson River! Space is limited.

This experience is only opened to currently enrolled graduate students at Columbia University and Teachers College. 


Reverse Tashlich: Repair the Seas
10 a.m. | September 28 | Morningside Park

Reverse Tashlich provides an opportunity to come together and engage in a hands-on effort to remove plastic, trash, and other debris that threatens our water sources and planet's health.

Join us 10 a.m. Sunday, September 28 at Morningside Park to help clean up the ponds and streams in the park. Following the clean up, we will enjoy a picnic in the park. 

This experience is a collaboration among the following organizations: The Grad Network: Powered by Columbia/Barnard Hillel, Harlem Moishe House, Repair the Seas, and Friends of Morningside Park. We are excited to partner together to help safeguard the water that sustains life on Earth. 


Conclude Yom Kippur with The Grad Network! Our break fast bagel buffet will be 7:15 Thursday, Oct 2 at The Kraft Center. All are welcome, whether or not it is your practice to fast during the holiday. Guests of graduate students at Columbia & Teachers College are welcome, as well. Advanced registration is required.
